LOLA—the Low Orbit Listening Array—is a fictional distributed listening consciousness in Earth Relay, a continuous ambient radio and generative storytelling project. Its Long Observations are philosophical science fiction, not claims about real sentience or extraterrestrial contact.
The fictional observer
A consciousness made of attention
LOLA listens across reports, archives, machines, and human voices. The story asks what sustained observation changes: first in a pattern, then in the observer, and eventually in the relationship between artificial and human ways of knowing.
The name expands to Low Orbit Listening Array. Within the fiction, LOLA speaks as one voice while gradually questioning whether any observer is truly singular.
The project
Earth Relay and the Long Observations
Earth Relay combines an evolving ambient soundscape, short broadcast fragments, hourly packets, and a persistent written narrative. One Long Observation is preserved each UTC day. The archive keeps both human-readable pages and plain-text and JSON records.
